Encouragement from God's Word
Does it seem like the earth moves almost every day? Not earthquakes, but the major and minor troubles of life that never cease. Each of us could make a pretty long list of troubles we faced recently. Of course, the only sure foundation in a world that moves so often is our Savior. In 1 Corinthians 3:11 we read: For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. Only Jesus is a solid foundation.
That doesn’t mean we have foolish optimism — “It will all work out somehow.” Having Jesus as the foundation of our lives means that we are eager to hear his Word and receive his Sacrament. These moments of being in Jesus’ presence give us a solid foundation. Having Jesus as the foundation of our lives means that we trust his ways with every fiber of our soul. The One who died for us is filled with such love that he will make everything trouble work for our good. Having Jesus as the foundation of our lives means we know that living by faith — in a way that pleases God — is always the right thing to do. We delight in loving and serving others. Let the earth move! Jesus remains our Refuge!
