Encouragement from God's Word
2 Corinthians 4:16–18
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
These verses have a few powerful statements for us to think about. For a moment, think about the first sentence, “There we do not lose heart.”
How can that be true? In our weakness, we do lose heart. Troubles, failures, hardships. As they pile up, we can lose heart.
Paul categorizes those as taking place “outwardly” and they cause us to waste away. But only outwardly.
“Inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” With our eyes on Christ, “what is unseen,” we are renewed in strength and hope for each day. Your Savior’s love does not fluctuate. His plan for you never changes. At times the path is bumpy and difficult. But his goal of “eternal glory” for you will not change. He secured that glory for you by his death and resurrection. You live in the security of God's unending love.
“Do not lose heart,” Christian. Jesus Christ is at work in your life for your eternal good. Fix your eyes on him and his love.
